Toennies, Mary

Mary Ann Toennies, 89, of Damiansville, died Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at Caring First in Breese. She was born December 5, 1919 in St. Louis, MO, daughter of Gerhard and Anna (Kuper) Toennies. Mary Ann is survived by a brother, Edward Toennies of Damiansville; a sister-in-law, Margaret Toennies of Belleville; and nieces and nephews, Don (Agnes) Gebhart, Marilyn Glasscock, Gary (Jeanne) Gebhart, Jim (Kay) Toennies, Dale (LuAnn) Toennies, Doris (Harold) McDonald, and Joan (Larry) Handley. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three brothers, William Toennies, George Toennies and Otto Toennies; two sisters, Agnes Toennies and Marcella Gebhart; and a brother-in-law, Joe Gebhart. She was a member of St. Damian Parish and Altar Sodality in Damiansville. A funeral mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 24, 2009 at St. Damian Catholic Church in Damiansville with Msgr. Donald Eichenseer officiating. Interment will follow at St. Damian Cemetery in Damiansville. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday, January 24, 2009 at St. Damian Church in Damiansville. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice and will be received at the funeral home.
