Thomas "Tom" A. Rakers, age 59, of Chester, Illinois, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, April 20, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on May 11, 1966, to Edmund and Joyce (Wellen) Rakers.

Tom married Lorie Laminack on July 7, 2004, in Nashville, Illinois, and she survives him in Chester. He is also survived by his children: Michelle (Bree) Rakers, Mitchell (Kayla) Rakers, Zach (Nichole) Rakers, Dylan Hentzel, and Kelsey (Brian) Upchurch; his grandchildren, Brycen, Lily, Hunter, Viola, Brooklyn, Liam, Lucas, Jackson, and Emma; His siblings, Chris (Tim) Hanke, Mark (Renee) Steinmann, and Rebecca (Mike) Henrichs, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and his beloved dog, Raven.

Tom was preceded in death by his father, Edmund Rakers, his brother, Billy Rakers, and his stepfather, Len Steinmann.

A graduate of Central Community High School in Breese in 1984, Tom furthered his education at Southern Illinois University. He proudly served his country as a United States Navy veteran. Following his military service, he dedicated 20 years to the Illinois Department of Corrections as a correctional officer at Menard Correctional Center in Chester, before retiring.

Tom’s passions included playing foosball, spending time outdoors, enjoying classic rock music, and playing iPhone games. Above all, he cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Monday, April 27, 2026, at Nordike Funeral Home in Carlyle. The funeral service celebrating Tom’s life will immediately follow, beginning at 1:00 PM at Nordike Funeral Home in Carlyle, with burial to take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Carlyle.

Memorials made in memory of Tom are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice and will be received at Nordike Funeral Home, 740 Fairfax Street, Carlyle, IL 62231.
