Selma “Tommie” King
Selma “Tommie” King, 95, died at 8:30 AM on June 11, 2015 at Carlyle Healthcare Center surrounded by her family. She was born to Henry and Amelia (Hohmann) Meyer on December 30, 1919 in Washington County, Illinois and was the last living sibling of nine children. On October 22, 1938 in Carlyle she married Lloyd E. “Peachie” King at Posey and he preceded her in death on January 4, 2007.
In addition to her husband of 69 years and her parents she was preceded in death by her eight siblings and their spouses: her special sister Emily and husband, Virgil “Midge” Turner of Carlyle, brothers, Paul “Fritz” Meyer of Posey, Dan and Alta Meyer of Carlyle, Willard “Butch” and Leona Meyer of Breese, Carl and Mildred Meyer of the Post Oaks, and Raymond and Francis Meyer of Scottsdale, Arizona and sisters, Glenna and Albert Tielmann, and Rose and Aloyis “Grassy” Meier of Carlyle.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Cain of Carlyle, grandson, Andy Lorenz and special friend, Terry Kruep, of Posey, great granddaughters Tyson Little of Carlyle and Ali and Scott Albers of Bartelso, and great great grandchildren, Austin Lorenz, Azlynn Little, Reagan Little, and Rafe Albers and numerous nieces and nephews.
Selma was known as “The Avon Lady” for over 25 years. She was an excellent seamstress and quilter and sold her creations at craft fairs throughout the area. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother.
Services will be at the Frerker Funeral Home in Carlyle at 11:00 A.M. on, Monday June 15 with Rev. Keith Michaels offciating. The interment will follow at Posey Cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family at the Funeral Funeral Home on Sunday from 3 to 5 P.M. or on Monday from 9 A.M. to the time of the services.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Posey Cemetery Association. All donations to the cemetery will be earmarked to erect a memorial which will serve as a sign naming the cemetery.
