Frank B. Santel, 76 of Damiansville, died Friday, April 30, 2010 at his home. He was born August 6, 1933 in Damiansville, son of Joseph A. and Helena (Wuebbels) Santel. He married Betty Ann Breiner on August 25, 1959 in Damiansville and she survives in Damiansville. In addition to his wife he survived by his children, Gary (Deb) Santel of Damiansville, Kevin (Jenny) Santel of Germantown, Janice (Vernon) Huelsmann of Trenton, Michelle (Doug) Ratermann of Damiansville, Jolene (Danny) Becker of Bartelso, and Kristi (Terry) Deerhake of Germantown; 17 grandchildren, Jennifer (fiancé, Corey Ripperda) Santel, Nathan Santel, Colin Santel, Alyse Santel, Jared Huelsmann, Amy Huelsmann, Ryan Huelsmann, Brandon Huelsmann, Nick Huelsmann, Bradley Huelsmann, Cody Ratermann, Jordan Ratermann, Dawson Ratermann, Logan Ratermann, Bryanna Becker, Mikayla Becker, & Brylee Deerhake; two sisters, Sister Flora (Florence) Santel of Ruma, and Catherine (Paul) Kahrhoff of Okawville; brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, John & Pat Friess of Chester, Marilyn & Edwin Fiedler of Belleville, Lavergne & Julie Breiner of Damiansville, and Darlene & Albin Toennies of Damiansville. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John Santel &Vincent Santel; two sisters, Olivia Meyer and Mary Friess; his father-in-law & mother-in-law, Emil & Frieda Breiner; brothers-in-law & sister-in-law, Sophie Santel, Don Meyer, and Emil Breiner in infancy. Mr. Santel was a farmer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War. He was a member of St. Damian Parish & Holy Name in Damiansville; the American Legion Post 1026 in Albers; the Knights of Columbus Council #2869 in Breese; and the Clinton County Farm Bureau. He enjoyed his grandchildren and gardening. A funeral mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 3, 2010, at St. Damian Catholic Church in Damiansville with Msgr. Donald Eichenseer officiating. Burial will follow at St. Damian Cemetery in Damiansville. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, May 2, 2010 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Monday, May 3, 2010 at Hempen Funeral Home in New Baden. The Breese Knights of Columbus will visit at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Damian Parish or Clinton County Relay For Life and will be received at the funeral home.
