Ronald "Ron" Oscar Berry, age 69, of Carlyle, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in O'Fallon. He was born March 12, 1956 in Breese IL to Francis "Black" and Mabel (Higgins) Berry. On April 21, 1980 he married Laurie (Norman) and she survives in Carlyle. Ron's legacy will live on through his children Hillary Berry, Ronnie Berry, Kyle Berry and grandchildren Caden Russel, Emmett Taylor, Hadlee Reid, Wyatt Taylor, and Tatom Berry, all of Carlyle.
Ron was a 49 year member of Laborers' Local 581 in Carlyle, serving as Business Manager until his retirement in 2010. After retirement he found joy in his family, especially his grandchildren.
Ron was an avid collector of Western memorabilia, especially items involving John Wayne. His lifelong passion of horse trading and coon hunting instilled countless friendships throughout the years. He was a member of the Blue Gascon Association and took pride in his hounds.
Survivors include his wife, children, and grandchildren. Sisters Myrna (John) Manhart, Shirley Grayling, and Bonnie Berry of Carlyle. Brother Donald Berry of Hoffman. Sister-in-law Virginia Berry of Carlyle and Darlene Berry Richview, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson Doc Taylor, sisters Flora Kay Berry, Phyllis Jane Berry and Virginia Irene Berry. Brothers Alfred Berry, Lester Berry, and Allen "Hoopy" Berry. Mother-in-law Coleen Lawhorn, Father-in-law William "Sonny" Norman. Sister-in-law Peggy Berry and Michelle Laux. Brother-in-law Truman Grayling, Jeff Norman, and Robert "Bob" Norman.
Funeral service will be held at 7:00 PM on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at Nordike Funeral Home in Carlyle with Rev. Jason McIntosh officiating.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM until the time of services on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at Nordike Funeral Home in Carlyle.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society and will be received at Nordike Funeral Home, 740 Fairfax Street, Carlyle, IL 62231.
