Randall Earl Short,62, of Herrin, Illinois passed away August 27, 2024.Randall “Randy” Short was born in East St. Louis, IL on April 3, 1962.Randy until recently, was a long-time resident of Collinsville, IL. Randy was a member of the Class of 1980 at Collinsville High School.

Randy was always very industrious even at an early age and worked in restaurant management and hospitality while attending high school. After graduation, he continued in restaurant management, hospitality, and began as a mixologist (bartender) he worked for many years at the Horseshoe Bar and Restaurant in Collinsville and at the Red Bar in Collinsville. He taught his little sister to tip well. Randy graduated from McKendree University Lebanon, IL in May of 2004 with a bachelor’s in business administration in Marketing with a minor in Management. Randy began a career at QuikTrip working as an assistant manager, in August 2009. He retired from QuikTrip in April of 2021.

Randy enjoyed traveling and exploring new cities, he especially enjoyed Hilton Head, South Carolina and traveling to Mexico and Hawaii. He also enjoyed float trips in southern Missouri and especially liked beach vacations. Randy also enjoyed shopping and cooking. He was an excellent cook. Randy cultivated friendships that spanned many years and many places. Randy had an outgoing personality; he had a wonderful ability to connect with others. Randy was an optimist and showed great fortitude, and resiliency during his life.

He was always proud of his older brother Stephen’s artistic abilities and humored his little sister and accompanied her to numerous St. Louis Cardinals baseball games and St. Louis Rams football games and other area sporting events. Randy and his sister attended two World Series games together in 2011. Randy worked hard for many years caring for his mother and enjoyed preparing her favorite meals. Randy and his little sister told each other they loved each other the last time they saw each other. A reminder to us all how precious time is. Randy’s ashes will be scattered in the ocean. Randy always tried to follow the Golden Rule, of respect, kindness, and fairness.

He is survived by his sister, Vicki E. Short, and her wife, Jessica Short, of Carbondale, IL. He is also survived by several close friends who loved him.

Randy was preceded in death by his brother Stephen E. Short, mother, Edythe Alice Walston, and his father, Emmitt E. Short.

Following his wishes, Randy was cremated, and no formal services will be held. Randy was an organ donor. He was able to successfully donate to Mid-America Transplant. “Contributions can be made to the Mid-America Transplant Foundation at https://www.midamericatransplant.org/our-foundation/donate-online.
