Obituary

Patricia "Patsy" A. Hodges, 84, of New Baden, passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at Memorial Hospital in Shiloh. She was born on November 19, 1941, in rural New Baden, the daughter of Adam Butch and Marjorie Rose, nee Ford, Renth. She married Evert Lee Hodges on August 29, 1959 at Zion United Church of Christ in New Baden and he preceded her in death on September 23, 2000.

Patsy was known for her unwavering commitment to her family and her community. A longtime volunteer at the Zion UCC Food Pantry, she generously gave her time and energy to support those in need. Her talents and passions were reflected in her love of quilting, cooking, baking, gardening, canning, and the simple joys of playing bingo and solving crossword puzzles. She also delighted in attending flea markets and yard sales, and was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team, sharing that passion with family and friends alike.

Patsy’s proudest accomplishment was her active membership in Zion United Church of Christ, where she found spiritual home and fellowship. Her life’s work as a homemaker was marked by warmth, care, and the nurturing of close family ties.

She is survived by her beloved children: Laurie (fiance Ried Lowrie) Hodges of Shiloh; Tim (Kathleen) Hodges; and Todd (Cori) Hodges, all of New Baden. She was the loving grandmother to Joshua (Nicole) Hodges, Jordan (Mallory) Hodges, Gavin Hodges, Rylee (Brendan) Bernhardt, and Lindsey (fiancé Steven Wright) Kelly; her step-grandson, Gabe Kitterman, and was a proud great-grandmother to Everett and Oliver Hodges, Tealey Wright, and Benny Bernhardt. Her family circle extended to her brother Gary Walthes and aunt Joyce Santel, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband, Patsy was preceded in death by her step-grandson Luke Kitterman, her brother Jim Renth, and brothers- and sisters-in-law Marvin "Pete" Hodges, Dorothy and Richard Rensing, and Bernice Ann Hodges.

Visitation for “Patsy” will be held on Monday, April 20, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Zion United Church of Christ in New Baden.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 20, 2026 at Zion United Church of Christ in New Baden with Pastor Stephen Stark officiating. Burial will follow at Greenmount Cemetery in New Baden.
