Obituary

Olinda Catherine (Wellen) Singleton, known as Linda, of Granite City, Illinois, formerly of Albers, IL, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2026, at the age of 88.

Born May 5, 1938, she was the oldest daughter of the late Alphonse B. and Josephine L. (Wellinghoff) Wellen. She grew up in Albers, IL with her sister and three brothers Betty, Roger, David and Kenny.

As a mother, she loved her children, served a hot breakfast every single morning before school and made their beds every day all the way through high school—a testament to her selflessness and providing nature. She was an extremely hard worker and enjoyed mowing her grass. Linda mowed her lawn and both of her elderly neighbors until she was in her 80’s.

Linda also had a deep affection for dogs, especially Maggie and Colby, who brought immense joy to her life. She loved listening to music and Elvis Presley was hands down her idol. Inheriting a lifelong passion from her mother, Linda was also an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. Until her dementia, she never missed a Cardinals game on tv.

Her surviving family, includes her son Terry Singleton and his wife Linda, and beloved daughter Tammy Singleton; her grandchildren, Erik Singleton and Erin (Singleton) Forbes and husband (Clay); her brothers and their spouses, Roger (Celie) Wellen and David (Bonnie) Wellen; her sister-in-law, Brenda Wellen; and her many nieces, nephews, and friends who loved her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alphonse and Josephine Wellen; her sister, Betty Schulte, her brother-in-law Hubert Schulte; and her youngest brother, Kenny Wellen.
