Obituary

Mineko “ Nana” Mavrogeorge, age 84, of New Baden, Illinois, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2026, at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in O’Fallon, Illinois.

Mineko was born on May 11, 1942, in Wakkanai, Japan. Her life was a beautiful journey that brought her from Japan to Illinois, where she built a family and a lifetime filled with memories, love, laughter, and the people who meant the most to her.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Chuck Mavrogeorge, with whom she shared 52 years of marriage. Together, they built a life and a family that remains one of Mineko’s greatest legacies.

Mineko is survived by her sons, Michael Mavrogeorge (LaVonne) and Jeff Mavrogeorge (Lisa); her grandchildren, Samantha, Logan, Kaiden, and Levi; and her great-grandchildren, Harmony and Holston Jr.

Family was at the heart of Mineko’s life, but her heart extended far beyond her family. She had a special ability to form deep and genuine connections with the people who came into her life. Her friendships were meaningful to her, and she cared deeply about the people she called friends. She didn’t simply know people, she remembered them, checked on them, shared in their lives, and made them feel cared for. The friendships she built over the years were an important part of her life, and those who knew her as a friend will remember the warmth, loyalty, and genuine care she gave so freely.

Mineko will be remembered not only for the years she shared with those she loved, but for the countless little moments that made a family, a friendship, and a life feel special. Her presence had a way of becoming part of people’s lives, and her absence will be felt by many.

Though she is no longer here to make new memories, Mineko leaves behind a lifetime of them. Her family and friends will carry those memories forward, along with the love she gave so freely and the lasting mark she left on their lives.

A mother’s love never truly leaves us. It becomes part of who we are, carried forward in the stories we tell, the traditions we keep, and the love we share with the generations that follow.

Mineko’s life will continue in the smiles of her grandchildren, in the laughter of her great-grandchildren, in the friendships she treasured, and in the memories held close by everyone who loved her. The years may pass, but the connections she made and the love she gave will remain.

She may no longer be here to walk beside the people she loved, but everything she gave them will continue to walk with them. Her kindness, her friendships, her laughter, and her love will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to share a part of her journey.

Rest peacefully, Mineko. Your life touched more people than you may have ever realized. You were loved deeply, you were cherished by many, and you will be remembered always.

In accordance with Mineko’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
