Oscar John Mallrich, 92, of Trenton, died Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at St. Joseph Hospital in Breese, IL. He was born August 29, 1922 in New Baden, IL, son of Oscar Phillip and Clare (Peter) Mallrich. Oscar married Evelyn B. Good on September 26, 1942 in St. Louis, Mo. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, James “Jim” Mallrich Sr. and wife Jan of New Baden; his daughter, Pamela “Pam” Mallrich Oster and husband Bob of New Baden; his grandchildren, Lisa Campbell and husband Jeff, Lynnette Brown and husband Stephen, James Mallrich Jr. and wife Shannon, Richard Mallrich and wife Elisa, Jeff Oster and wife Kristine, Brad Oster and wife Kristen, Stacey Oster Leemon and husband Chad, as well as seventeen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Mr. Mallrich was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Patricia Hagist and Virginia Warnecke. Oscar served in the Army Air Corp during World War II. Mr. Mallrich was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Trenton, a lifetime member of the American Legion Poelker Post 321 in New Baden, and a member of the VFW. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and woodworking. After his retirement, Oscar and his wife Evelyn lived 30 years near Bull Shoals Lake in Oakland, Arkansas. They traveled with their camping club all over the United States, Canada, and Mexico. He played many years for the Clinton County Baseball League, where he later became a member of the Hall of Fame. Oscar also played for the St. Louis Browns and Cleveland Indians Minor League Baseball organizations. It was during his early sports career where he earned the nickname “Wow”. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church in Trenton with Pastor Mike Rucker officiating. A private interment will be held at a later date. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church in Trenton. The American Legion will visit the church at 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday. Memorials may be made to the Trenton First United Methodist Church and will be received at the church or Hempen-Nordike Funeral Home, 15 E. Hanover, New Baden, IL 62265 who is in charge of arrangements.
