Magdalene E. Wilken, 97, of New Baden, died on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at Clinton Manor Nursing Home in New Baden. She was born June 5, 1922 in New Baden, daughter of Adolph and Katie (Kinzle) Golsch. She married George P. Wilken on June 25, 1941 in New Baden and he preceded her in death on June 30, 2011.
Mrs. Wilken is survived by her eight children, Georgieann “Dolly” Gebke, Marlene (Robert) Haas, Eugene (Sherry) Wilken, Dale (Melba) Wilken, Darlene (Louis) Boeckmann, Elfrieda (Richard) Poettker, Brendalee (Randy) Ross, and Gary (Dorothy) Wilken; 19 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren; one sister, Agnes Teauge of Hazelwood, Mo.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Thomas Gebke; five sisters, Mary Fauke, Elfrieda Renhardt, Anne Broeckling, Amelia Haas, and Katherine Hug; and four brothers-in-law, Alfred Fauke, Louis Reinhardt, Adolph “Bud” Hug, Herman Broeckling, Raymond Haas, and Hanson Teauge.
Mrs. Wilken was a homemaker. She was a member of St. George Parish Mass, Funeral Choir, Altar Sodality and Purgatorial Society, the American Legion Post 321 Auxiliary in New Baden, the New Baden Senior Citizens, and the New Baden Singers and Swingers.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 22, 2019 at St. George Church in New Baden with Rev. Gene Neff officiating. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in New Baden.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, July 21, 2019 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. on Monday at Nordike Funeral Home in New Baden.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made for Masses or the St. George Window Restoration Fund and will be received at the funeral home.
