Loretta Marie Trevelline, formerly of Carlyle, passed away on January 8, 2026, at the home of her son, Michael, near East Liverpool, Ohio. She was 96 years old, born on June 1, 1929, to Edward Hacker, a man saintly and without guile, and Ida (Van de Loo) of Bartelso. She was one of ten children raised on a small farm without modern conveniences, walking three miles through pastures to a one-room schoolhouse. After working on local farms for several years, she made her way alone to St Louis, finding a civil service position. After transferring to Denver, she married Joseph, a defense industry electrical engineer, who shared origins in large families. She set out to be a frugal and industrious wife and mother to her two sons, always with a garden, canning jars, and pie pans. When her children left home, she worked in care facilities into her 70s. She was a simple, unpretentious soul, looking only to serve her family and always careful to attend Sunday Mass and receive the sacraments. She enjoyed reading, especially history, and in her later years, crossword puzzles.
She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph, brothers and sisters Robert Hacker (KIA Battle of the Bulge), Edward Jr. (Joyce), Dolly (Melvin) Van Alst, Joseph (June), Wilbur, Alvin, Richard (Marcella).
She is survived by her sister Doris (Bill) Tadlock and Mary (John) Kampwerth, by her two sons, Michael of Ohio and Eric of Missoula, Montana, by four Montana grandchildren, Eric Jr., Joseph, Joaquine, and Eleana, great-grandchildren, and by most of her many, many nieces and nephews.
