Julia “Jupie” A. Gonzalez, age 68, of Beckemeyer, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 27, 2026, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Breese. Born on February 11, 1958, in Breese, she was the beloved daughter of Joaquin “Jack” and Lorraine (Vahlkamp) Gonzalez.
Jupie is lovingly remembered by her siblings: Jack (Linda) Gonzalez, Mary (Steve) Kelso, Joe Gonzalez, Ben (Jan) Gonzalez, and Chris (Randy) Dooley; her nieces and nephews: Bryan (Krista), Scott, Jason Gonzalez, Jamie (James) Unger, Bret (Lori) Kelso, Joe (Amanda) and Melissa Gonzalez, Jill (Jay) Warren, Matt (Colleen) Gonzalez, and Megan (Liz) Claussen; as well as her great nieces and nephews Cortney (Kyle) Walker and Chelsea (Keegan) Anderson, Cooper, Maybry, and Murphy Unger, Riley Gonzalez, Bennett and Noah Gonzalez, and Allie, Lane and Sam Claussen. She also cherished her great-great nieces and nephews, Carter, Tatum and Karsyn. A special thank you to Kim Langenhorst who provided care and friendship the last months.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Jane Gonzalez, and several aunts and uncles.
A member of St. Anthony Parish in Beckemeyer, Jupie worked for many years in maintenance at Breese District 12. Known for her delicious taco sauce and popcorn balls, she was cherished by all who knew her. In her youth, Jupie was a talented athlete, excelling in softball and basketball and always recognized as the fastest runner on the field. In recent years, she generously volunteered with Hooterfest and the Beckemeyer American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed tending bar at the Legion and engaging with everyone she met. Jupie was a passionate St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed watching Caitlin Clark play basketball. She also treasured her pet cockatiel, affectionately called Pretty Bird. Above all, Jupie’s greatest joy came from her family, especially her nieces and nephews, whom she loved as if they were her own children.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, May 4, 2026, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Beckemeyer, with Fr. Chuck Tuttle and Deacon Jay Fowler officiating. Burial will follow at St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Beckemeyer.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, May 3, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and on Monday morning from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM at Nordike Funeral Home in Carlyle.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jupie’s memory are respectfully suggested to the Mater Dei Foundation or the Beckemeyer-Wade Township Fire Department and may be sent to Nordike Funeral Home, 740 Fairfax Street, Carlyle, IL 62231.
