Vincent J. Jansen, 88, of Aviston, died Friday, December 5, 2014 at his home. He was born November 15, 1926 in Albers, son of William and Margaret (Kloeckner) Jansen. He married Marie Brand on August 28, 1954 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Aviston and she survives in Aviston. In addition to his wife he is survived by seven daughters, Ruth (Dan) Freesmeier of Lincoln, IL, Sharon (Larry) Dierkes, Alice (Rick) Wellen, and Mary Lee Thole all of Aviston, IL, Sandra (Aaron) Barr, Betty (Scott Weber) Jansen, and Carolyn Jansen all of Edwardsville, IL; a son, Alan Jansen of Albers; 19 grandchildren, Aaron Freesmeier, Jeris Freesmeier, Carrie (Jason) Albers, Megan (Tony) Luther, Brad (Sheila) Dierkes, Jessica (James) Ruiz, Stephanie Jansen, Kristina Jansen, Seth (Kristi) Jansen, Lynette (Nathan) Hemker, Geri (Robert) Luebbers, Mandy (Tim) Buhnerkempe, Charlotte (Jim) Detmer, Mitchell Thole, Connor Thole, Roman Barr, Brynn Barr, Jade Weber, and Quinn Weber; 19 great-grandchildren and three more on the way; two sisters, Clara Schachner and Marie (Larry) Straetor; two brothers, Norbert Jansen and Edmund (Norma) Jansen; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Cleopha Schnefke, Tom & Bette Brand, Jerene Brand, and Adele Jansen. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sons, Leonard Jansen and Kenneth Jansen; brothers, Albert Jansen, Raymond Jansen, and Leo Jansen; three sisters, Martha Varel, Stella Heimann, and Sister Eulogia Jansen, ASC; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Catherine Jansen, Henrietta Jansen, Al Varel, Al Heimann, Bob Schachner, Charles Schnefke, John Brand, and James & RoseAnn Brand. Mr. Jansen was a farmer; a veteran of the United States Army; and retired from Scott Air Force Base as a mechanic. He was a member of St. Francis Parish where he served as Eucharistic Minister for many years, a lifetime member of the Catholic War Veterans Post 1780, a member of Clinton County Farm Bureau, the Aviston Town Board under Mayor Fred Lohman. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Aviston with Rev. Dan Friedman officiating. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in Aviston. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, December 8, 2014 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at Hempen-Nordike Funeral Home in Aviston. Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice and will be received at the funeral home.
