Obituary

Floyd Arlo Ashdown, 84, of Albers, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Carlyle Healthcare Center. He was born on August 10, 1941, in Moline, Illinois, the son of Lester and Frances (née Floyd) Ashdown. On October 29, 1965, he married Margaret “Peg” Belcher in Denver, Colorado, and together they shared more than 60 years of marriage.

After graduating from Bradley University, Floyd dedicated 28 years of distinguished service to his country in the United States Air Force, retiring with the rank of Colonel. A skilled civil engineer, he continued his professional career after military service and contributed to the construction of MidAmerica St. Louis Airport.

Beyond his military and professional accomplishments, Floyd was a man of many passions and talents. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, woodworking, antiquing, and cheering on his favorite baseball team, the St. Louis Cardinals. Known for his ability to fix just about anything, he combined his creativity and craftsmanship as an antique dealer, designing and building hundreds of unique decorative greenhouses from architectural salvage.

Above all, Floyd was a man of honor, integrity, kindness, and devotion to his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Peg; his daughters, Kristen (Dave) Schramke and Karen (Frank) Schneider; his grandchildren, Chris (Truly) Helton, Brittany (Tim) Wiscombe, Tyler Ashdown, Ryan Schneider, and Natalie Schneider; his great-granddaughters, Addalyn, Hollie, Eva, Zepplyn, and Millie; his sisters, Shirley (Steve) Morrell and Beth (Peter Leddy) Ashdown; and numerous extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his great-grandson, Lloyd.

Friends and family are invited to attend visitation on Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Nordike Funeral Home in New Baden, Illinois. A funeral service with military honors will follow at 11:00 a.m., providing an opportunity for loved ones to celebrate Floyd’s life and bid him a heartfelt farewell.
