Florence M.Hammer of Beckemeyer passed away Sunday, January 25, 2015 at the Carlyle Healthcare Center at the age of 85 years. Mrs. Hammer was born in Beckemeyer on May 29, 1929, the daughter of Louis and Celia (Kampwerth) Holthaus. She married Clarence Hammer on August 23, 1969 at St. Anthony Church in Beckemeyer and he preceded her in death on April 1, 1999.
Florence is survived by her sibling: Lucille Holthaus of Beckemeyer, Kathryn Holthaus of Beckemeyer, Edward Holthaus and wife Edna of Carlyle, Paul Holthaus and wife Lois of Breese, Julius Holthaus and wife Kathy of Beckemeyer, Louis Holthaus and wife Linda of Beckemeyer, Elmer Holthaus of Beckemeyer, and Virgil Holthaus and wife Peggy of Beckemeyer; sisters-in-law: Gertrude Holthaus and Jean Holthaus; and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Hammer was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister: Betty Ann Bruggeman; and brothers: Vic Holthaus, Rich Holthaus and Andy Holthaus.
Florence was a member of St. Anthony Church in Beckemeyer. Before her health deteriorated, she enjoyed playing bingo. Florence had worked at the Trenton Shoe Factory, Wee Walker Shoe Factory in Carlyle and retired from the Highland Healthcare Center in Highland, Illinois.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at 10:00 A.M.at St. Anthony Church in Beckemeyer with Fr. Chuck Tuttle and Deacon Bob Lippert officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Highland, Illinois.
Friends may visit with the Holthaus family at St. Anthony Church in Beckemeyer on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 from 8:00 A.M. until the time of the Mass.
