Elizabeth "Betty" M. Jansen, 90, of Carlyle, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at Evercare of Breese. She was born on February 24, 1936, in Carlyle, the daughter of John and Helen, nee Revermann, Isaak. She married Marcel Diekmann on October 20, 1954 at St. Mary Church in Carlyle and he preceded her in death on July 12, 1984. She then married Robert H. Jansen on February 1, 1991 at Marydale Church in Carlyle and he preceded her in death on November 3, 2005.
Betty devoted 25 years of her career to the Moran Shoe Factory in Carlyle, followed by three years of service at Quips Textiles. In addition to these roles, she graciously waited tables during weddings and various events at the KC Hall, offering hospitality and kindness that endeared her to all who knew her.
A woman of many talents and interests, Betty found joy and solace in baking and embroidering. She cherished spending time with her family and was an active member of St. Mary Parish, where she served with devotion in the Altar Sodality.
Betty's life was one of strong family ties and deep community involvement. She is survived by her loving son, Wayne Diekmann of Carlyle; her daughters Elaine King and her husband Danny of Simpson, IL, and Diane Hartman of Huey, son-in-law, Kenny Macky of Carlyle. Her family further extends to 10 grandchildren who carry forward her legacy of love and care.
She is also survived by her sisters Pearl Stevens and her husband Butch of Huey, Estella Hamilton of Rushville, and Ruth Bradford and her husband Michael of Carterville, along with her sister-in-law Helen Isaak of Carlyle.
Betty was preceded in death by her devoted parents; her husbands Marcel Diekmann and Robert H. Jansen; her daughter, Phyllis Macky; a son-in-law, Larry Hartman; her father-in-law and mother-in-law Barney and Lavern Diekmann; her step-father Sheldon Apple; beloved grandson Russell Burkhardt; brothers Joe Isaak and Elmer Isaak; and brothers-in-law Gene Hamilton and Lavern Diekmann.
A visitation to honor Betty's memory will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Saturday, March 28, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Carlyle. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery.
Memorials made in memory of Betty may be made to the Matthew 25 Food Pantry in Carlyle and will be received at the church or Nordike Funeral Home, 740 Fairfax St., Carlyle, IL 62231 who is serving the family.
