Edith M. Skrobul, age 95, of Beckemeyer, died Monday, April 20, 2026, at Aviston Countryside Manor with her family by her side.
She was born on November 12, 1930, in Carlyle, the daughter of Pearl (Nettles) and Paul Kellermann. She was raised on a farm in rural Carlyle and was affectionately known as "Babe" by her family and friends. On September 3, 1949, she married Stanley Skrobul of Beckemeyer at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Carlyle, and he preceded her in death on May 9, 2002.
Edith was a woman of faith who enjoyed spending time with her family. She was an avid reader. She also enjoyed watching Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, Cubs baseball, and Illinois Basketball.
Prior to her marriage, she worked at Moran Shoe Company in Carlyle, where she met her spouse, Stanley. In 1964, she began caring for residents at the Warren G. Murray Development Center in Centralia, IL, and retired after 30 years. While there, she served as a certified nursing assistant, a certified medication technician, and a cottage supervisor.
Edith was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Beckemeyer and of the Ladies' Sodality. She was a Franciscan Lay Associate and, in her earlier years, volunteered at St. Joseph's Hospital in Breese as a Eucharistic Minister.
She is survived by her children, Terry (Vern) Eversgerd, Tony Skrobul, Vicki (Bob) Maurer and Guy (Gwyn) Skrobul; grandchildren: Laura (Andy) Jansen, Stefanie Eversgerd, Robert Maurer III (fiancée Alice Lee) Anita (Ben) Sharko, Jessica (Tyler) Paul and Nicholas Skrobul; great-grandchildren: Sarah (Drake) Claxton, Hannah (Spencer) Mauch, Joseph, William, Matthew, Cecilia and Mary Jansen, Owen and Eloise Sharko, Natalie and Maria Paul and great-great- granddaughter Evelyn Claxton. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, JoAnn Skrobul, and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her spouse, she was preceded in death by her parents, her brother and sister-in-law, Peter and Evelyn Kellermann, daughter-in-law, Sandy Skrobul, and an infant great-granddaughter, Catherine Jansen. Also preceded in death by her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Josephine and Harold Berholtz, Julie and Marion Oefelein, Ann and Edwin Brady, Stella and William McManus, Vernie and Al Mensing, Anthony Skrobul, and nieces and nephews: Phyllis Mensing, Stanley Mensing, and Marion Oefelein.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Beckemeyer with Fr. Chuck Tuttle officiating. Burial will follow at St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery in Beckemeyer.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:45 AM on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Beckemeyer.
Memorials made in memory of Edith are suggested to masses or to St. Anthony Catholic Church and will be received at the church or at Nordike Funeral Home, 740 Fairfax Street, Carlyle, IL 62231.
