Dorothy Latrelle Gamblin, 85, of Mascoutah, passed away on Monday, August 24, 2026 at Clinton Manor Living Center in New Baden. She was born March 7, 1941 in Lakeland, Georgia, the daughter of Mose and Eva, nee Rouse, Bradford. She married Harold Gamblin September 29, 1971 in Belleville, and he survives in Mascoutah.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Stan (Maria Wesselman) Peterson, Cheryl (Mark) Engelmann, John (Rosalind) Gamblin, and Scott Gamblin; grandchildren, Elisha (Trevor) Kehrer, Taylor (Larry) Li, Austin Peterson, and Parker Gamblin; her great-grandchildren, Trent, Ella, Rion, Kort, & Nix Kehrer, and Cora Li.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Harold Gamblin III; her siblings Betty, Ina, Josephine, Ralph, James William, Perry, Clarence, Russell, Carl Gene, and Harold Wayne; and her in-laws, John & Norma Foster.

Dorothy grew up in Lakeland, Georgia with her seven brothers and three sisters, playing and working on the farm, while being the first in her family to earn a diploma. She grew up to become a remarkable woman with a huge and deeply caring heart that perfectly suited her for a career in healthcare. She worked as a registered respiratory therapist for 43 years, retiring at the age of 75, teaching her children the value of hard work and commitment. Beyond the hard-earned career she built through grit, intelligence, and determination, she loved her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren the “mostest”, never letting an opportunity pass to remind them. Dorothy was in this life and always will be our beautiful angel. Until we are blessed to be greeted by her in Heaven, we love you the “mostest”!

Our family wants to express a deep and heartfelt thank you to Clinton Manor and Southern Illinois Hospice for the endless love and tireless care they gave Mom during her rehabilitation journey and end-of-life support. Everyone was incredibly kind, and we all felt their love for our beautiful mother. A special heartfelt thank you for the love and friendship Arlene gave Mom.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, September 3, 2026 at Nordike Funeral Home in New Baden.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until time of services on Thursday, September 3, 2026 at Nordike Funeral Home in New Baden.

Memorials may be made to Clinton Manor, The Parkinson's Foundation or the American Heart Association and will be received at the funeral home.
