Dora A. Beer, 71, of Aviston, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 18, 1953, in Breese, Illinois, the daughter of Richard and Dorothy, nee Wolters, Richter. She married Ron Beer August 13, 1977 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Aviston.
Dora's family was the center of her life. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was always willing to give her love and care to her children and grandchildren. She attended many football, basketball, baseball, and soccer games, and school plays as her grandchildren's biggest cheerleader. Many hours were spent on the back patio with her husband, Ron, and friends and neighbors around the fire. She enjoyed traveling the world and attending musicals with her sister, Darlene. Dora dedicated an impressive 52 years of her life as a beautician, where she made life long connections with her clients. In addition, for 30 years, she lovingly provided in-home daycare, a testament to her nurturing spirit and commitment to the well-being of many children in her community.
Dora's life was filled with various interests and hobbies; she found joy in crocheting and baking, and enjoyed being an avid bowler since 1972, further showcasing her fun-loving personality. Dora was committed to her faith and community. She was a devoted member of St. Francis Parish, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a former member of the Parish Council. Her involvement extended to the Catholic Fraternal Life and she was a dedicated TOPS member for 45 years.
Dora leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory. She is survived by her devoted husband of 47 years, Ron Beer; her children, Melissa (James) Jervis, Bryan (Brett) Beer, Amy (James) Sperry, and Carl (Kendra) Beer; and her grandchildren, Harrison & Anderson Jervis, Paxton & Asher Beer, Hannah & Gavin Sperry, and Hazel & Caroline Beer. She is also survived by her siblings, Roger (Joyce) Richter, Darlene (Gary) Timmermann, and Roland (Pam) Richter, as well as her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Bill Thomas, Pat (Phil) Fulkerson, Donna (Jeff) Clark, Mary (Kevin) Essington, and Colette (Joe) Langham. Dora also leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents Richard and Dorothy Richter, and father and mother-in-law, Ray and Marie Beer, she was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Elaine Thomas, and niece, Mary Rose Thomas.
Dora will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of love, faith, and compassion will forever inspire those fortunate enough to have shared in her life.
Visitation will be held at Nordike Funeral Home in Aviston, Illinois on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and again on Thursday, May 1, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM.
A Memorial Mass will take place on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Francis Catholic Church with Rev. Von Deeke officiating.
Memorials may be made to Siteman Cancer Center, Aviston Countryside Manor Activity Fund, Hospice of Southern Illinois, or the St. Francis Parish Cemetery Fund and will be received at the funeral home.
