Donald B. Fuhler

Donald B. Fuhler, 87, of New Baden, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 4, 2026, at Carlyle Healthcare Center in Carlyle. He was born on January 16, 1939, in Aviston,  the son of Herman and Bertha, nee Stoff, Fuhler. He married Jane E. Netemeyer at St. George Catholic Church in New Baden in 1966 and she survives in New Baden.

Donald devoted much of his life to his career as a laborer for Local 742, where his commitment and skill earned him the respect of colleagues and friends alike. Beyond his professional life, Donald found joy in simpler pleasures that brought warmth and companionship. He loved camping, engaging in lively games of euchre, and spending time at the clubhouse, where his presence touched many.

A proud and active member of St. George Catholic Church, Donald’s faith was a cornerstone of his life, providing strength and guidance throughout his years. His devotion to his church community was among his proudest accomplishments.

In addition to his wife, Donald is survived by his loving children: Doug (Ginny) Fuhler, Michael “Fugi” (Toni) Fuhler, Gary Fuhler, and Twyla (Jack) Robben; daughter-in-law Stephanie Fuhler; as well as eight grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren who will carry forward his legacy of love and resilience. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Scott Fuhler; daughter-in-law Paula Fuhler; seven sisters; and two brothers.

The family extends profound gratitude to the staff at Carlyle Healthcare Center for the excellent care and compassion they provided during Donald’s final days.

There will be a private family graveside services with a celebration of life for friends and family to be held at a later date. 

Memorials made in memory of Donald can be made to St. George Parish and will be received at Nordike Funeral Home, 15 E. Hanover St., New Baden, IL 62265 who is serving the family.
