IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Clyde Noel
Sterling
April 18, 1937 – March 8, 2026
Clyde N. Sterling, age 88, of New Baden, peacefully passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital in Breese on Sunday, March 8, 2026. He was born on April 18, 1937, in East St. Louis, Illinois, to Clem and Helen (Inez) Sterling. Clyde married Dorothy Halterman on July 26, 1965, in Belleville, Illinois, and they shared a cherished life together in New Baden for 60 wonderful years.
Clyde is lovingly remembered by his wife, Dorothy, and their children: Colleen Link and her husband, John, and Christopher Sterling and his wife, Patricia, who reside in Texas. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Lisa Sterling; his beloved grandchildren: John, Ashley, and Joey Link, Alec and Madison Sterling, and Bianca and Zach Sterling; and his great-grandchildren: Elizabeth Applegate, Marie Applegate, Jamie Sterling, Jack Sterling, Lucy Link, and JD Link, with the joy of twin boys expected in June. He is further survived by his sister-in-law, Pat Sterling, and numerous nieces and nephews, including Davey Sterling, Ricky Sterling, Beverly Sterling, Wesley Sterling, and his wife, Eva.
Clyde was preceded in death by his son, Bruce Sterling, and his brother, Charles Sterling.
He was a veteran of the United States Army and a devoted member of First Baptist Church in New Baden. Clyde contributed to the community as the head usher and found great joy in his faith. He worked as the postal supervisor in downtown St. Louis for 35 years. He was a proud St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and cherished moments with his grandchildren. A lover of reading and storytelling, Clyde had a knack for humor, often sharing jokes that brought laughter to those around him. While he may have traveled "reluctantly," it was evident that he valued every moment spent with his loved ones. Clyde was also a dedicated former member of the New Baden Lions Club and enjoyed engaging with thoughtful political analysis.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday, March 13, 2026, at the First Baptist Church in New Baden, with Pastor Dave Manley officiating. Interment will follow at Greenmount Cemetery in New Baden.
Visitation will take place from 9:00 AM until the service begins on Friday, March 13, 2026, at the First Baptist Church.
In honor of Clyde's memory, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church and can be delivered to the church or sent to Nordike Funeral Home, 15 East Hanover Street, New Baden, IL 62265.
