Charles H. “Tiger” Zahn, 93, of Trenton, died Monday, August 31, 2015 at Aviston Countryside Manor. He was born October 31, 1921 in Trenton, son of Hayward J. and Myrtle J. (Schoonover) Zahn. He married Elinor Strotheide on October 26, 1944 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Trenton and she survives in Trenton.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Robert C. (Angie) Zahn and Mary L. (Richard) Klein all of Trenton, and Carol J. (Neil) Schneider of St. Louis, MO; grandchildren, Joel (Stephanie) Zahn, Jennifer (Jack Kornmann) Zahn, Tim (Kerrie) Klein, Tammy (Bryan) Courtney, Todd (Stephanie Tonnies) Klein, and Tom Klein; great-grandchildren, Chelsea Klein, Michael Klein, Brandon Courtney, Taylor Courtney, Jacob Zahn, and Maddison Zahn; a sister, Lois Wessel of St. Louis, MO; and a brother-in-law Bernard Lengerman of Belleville.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Rosemary Lengerman; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jane & Dennis “Dempsey” Davis, Harold Wessel, Sid & Laverne Strotheide, and Eugene & Nancy Strotheide.
Mr. Zahn was a sales rep for the Williamson Company and a veteran of the U. S. Navy having served during WWII and retired after 20 years as a Naval Aviator. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Trenton, he served as an Alderman for 6 years in Trenton, the American Legion Post 778, the VFW Post 7983, and a member of the Tailhook Society.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at St. Mary’s Church in Trenton with Rev. Joseph Rascher officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Trenton.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. until time of service Saturday, September 5, 2015 at St. Mary’s Church in Trenton.
