Charles Louis Markus, age 77, of Aviston, passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at Breese Nursing Home. He was born April 16, 1947 in Breese, the son of Lawrence "Snick" and Verena, nee Wolters, Markus.
Charles is survived by his brother, Lawrence (Marcella) Markus; sisters-in-law, Ceil Markus, Ellie Markus, Jessie Markus, Marilyn Markus, and Carol Markus all of Aviston; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Benedict "Dick" Markus, Gerald "Porky" Markus, Thomas Markus, Daniel Markus, and Mark Markus; and a sister in infancy, Mary Frances Markus.
Charlie was a member of St. Francis Parish. He was a retired cabinet maker employed at Markus Cabinet in Aviston. Charlie was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968. He enjoyed hunting, his clubhouse, being outdoors, riding his side by side, watching St. Louis Cardinals Baseball, and especially enjoyed visits with the family and special friends.
Visitation will be held from 8:30 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. on Monday, September 30, 2024 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Aviston.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, September 30, 2024 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Aviston with Rev. Von Deeke officiating. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in Aviston.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Jared Burke Foundation or Cancer Care Specialists of Illinois and will be received at church or Nordike Funeral Home, 150 N. Clinton St., Breese, IL 6230 who is serving the family.
