Obituary

Catherine “Cathy” Edna Creath (nee Wilson), 63, of Damiansville, Illinois, passed away peacefully at Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital in O’Fallon, IL, on Monday, September 14, 2026, surrounded by the love and comfort of her children. Born July 30, 1963, to Ralph and Edna Wilson, Cathy spent her adolescent years moving often, an experience that taught her from an early age the value of adaptability, resilience, and finding a sense of home wherever she went.

On March 18, 1989, Cathy married Robert Creath Jr., and they were blessed with four beautiful children: Devon (Justin) Hemann, Michael (Reed) Creath, Brenden Creath, and Braden (Fiancé Emily Gonterman) Creath. Their family continued to grow by three grandchildren: Alayna Hemann, Aralyn Hemann, and Ryker Hemann. Cathy was immensely proud of her children and grandchildren, and she savored every chance she had to attend numerous sporting events or any occasion where her family was involved.

Cathy was not only a cherished mother and beloved sister; she was also a bright light in the lives of everyone who knew her. Known for her caring personality and ability to make people laugh with her off-handed humor, Cathy lived her life with an open heart to the fullest. She loved pouring her heart into creating comforting home-cooked meals for her friends and family, attending shopping trips with her sisters, and spending countless hours nurturing her flower garden-especially her roses. She cherished the time spent with her family and friends and absolutely adored her grandbabies. Cathy will be remembered for her beautiful smile, most generous soul, and knack for working those slot machines alongside the poker table.

She dedicated her life to passionately caring for others. A proud graduate of the Florissant Valley Nursing Program in 1989, she began a nursing career that spanned over 30 years at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Throughout her journey as a nurse, she was a constant, never-ending source of unwavering support and love to any and all, touching countless lives along the way and making anyone she cared for feel right at home with her warm presence.

Cathy is survived by her husband, Robert Creath Jr.; sisters Sandy (Andy) Schipke and Shellie Cartwright-Grapperhaus; children; grandchildren; and loving nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Edna Wilson, and her son, Brenden Creath. The greatest loss of Cathy’s life was the passing of her beloved son, Brenden, with whom she is now joyfully reunited with in Heaven.

Her absence leaves a profound void, but her legacy of love will live in the hearts of those she loved most.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 8:00 PM on Friday, September 18, 2026, and on Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 9:00 AM until the time of services at Nordike Funeral Home in New Baden.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Nordike Funeral Home in New Baden, with Pastor Josh Wolford officiating. Burial will follow at Greenmount Cemetery in New Baden.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Epilepsy Foundation in remembrance of her late son, Brenden, and will be received at Nordike Funeral Home, 15 East Hanover Street, New Baden, IL 62265.
