Brett P. Haas, 59, of Eddyville, KY, and formerly of Carlyle, IL, passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, TN. He was born on May 24, 1966, in Belleville, Illinois, the son of Joseph and Janice Winkeler Haas. He married Sherry Lea Gray on October 10, 2020, at Hazlet State Park in Carlyle, Illinois, and she survives in Eddyville, Kentucky

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Timothy Haas; stepchildren, Joshua Greene, Breanna Morris, Quinlin Morris, and Caitlin Morris; and seven grandchildren. Also, dear friend, who is like a son, Dalton Smolley. 

Brett was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Janice Haas.

Brett retired from the Greenville Federal Correctional Center, where he worked as a Senior Officer Specialist. 

He was a lifetime member of the NRA and an avid hunter of many species, including geese and deer, and loved fishing for catfish. Another one of Brett’s loves was his guns. He was a sharpshooter and had an amazing eye for his target. He enjoyed trap shooting and competition shooting at The Grand. He was also a carry-and-conceal instructor and a federal firearms instructor.

Brett was many things to many people, but the title he wore most proudly was husband to Sherry Lea Haas. Their love story was one of deep devotion — a bond that weathered every storm and only grew stronger with time. Together they shared countless adventures, traveled to new places, and filled their days with laughter that will echo in the hearts of those who witnessed their love.

Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of services on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at Nordike Funeral Home in Carlyle, Illinois.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at Nordike Funeral Home in Carlyle, Illinois

Memorials made in memory of Brett may be made to the Patriot Guard Riders and will be received at Nordike Funeral Home, 740 Fairfax St., Carlyle, IL 62231.
