Bertha M. Voss, age 99, of Breese, departed this life on December 1, 2025, at her home. Bertha was born on May 10, 1926, in rural Carlyle to Julius and Cecelia (Dumstorff) Laux. She married Vincent H. Voss on August 25, 1948, at St. Felicia Catholic Church in Beaver Prairie, a union that lasted until his passing on December 28, 1991.
Bertha is lovingly remembered by her children: Michael Voss, Diane Fewell, Ronnie Voss and wife Diane, Karen Crouch and husband Larry, Debi Will, Darlene May and husband Barry, Colleen Lozier and husband Jim, Maurice "Mo" Voss and wife Kae, Connie Heimann and husband Kevin, Lisa Gabriel and husband Billie, Daryl Voss, Cheri Horstmann and husband Mike, and Stacey Anders and husband Mark. She was a proud grandmother to twenty-six grandchildren, a cherished great-grandmother to twenty-seven great-grandchildren, and a beloved great-great-grandmother to two.
In addition to her parents and husband, Bertha was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Carol Voss; son, Doug Voss; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and her siblings: Dorothy & Steve Haselhorst, Leonard Laux, Eleanor and Cyril Voss, and Helen and Ray Kniepmann. She is also preceded by her in-laws: August and Mary Ann Voss, along with her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: August & Rose Voss, Agnes and Victor VonHatten, Otto and Alvina Voss, Regina and Ed Richter, Joseph and Priscilla Voss, Victor and Alvina Voss, and Francis and Rita Voss.
Throughout her life, Bertha was known for her dedication to her family and community. She held various positions, including seasonal roles at the Breese Journal and Jim’s Formal Wear, but is mainly remembered for her ten years of service at Walmart and eleven years of cooking at Knotty Pine. Her commitment extended beyond her work, as she was an active member of the community, serving as a 4-H Leader, a past president of the St. Dominic Altar Sodality, and a member of the Breese American Legion Auxiliary. Bertha enjoyed playing games like Euchre and Bingo and was a proud member of the Red Hat Ladies. Above all, she cherished her role as a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 5, 2025, at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese, with Fr. Patrick Peter officiating. Interment will follow at St. Dominic - St. Augustine Cemetery in Breese.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, December 4, 2025, and again from 8:00 AM to 10:30 AM on Friday at Nordike Funeral Home in Breese.
In honor of Bertha’s life, memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice and will be received at Nordike Funeral Home, 150 North Clinton Street, Breese, IL 62230.
