Bernadette "Pat" Rose Sudholt, 84, of Aviston, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at Cedarhurst of Breese. She was born on October 6, 1941, in Mascoutah, the daughter of Bernard and Dorothy, nee Harder, Toeben. She married Steve Richards on April 20, 1963 in New Baden, and they were blessed with two sons, Steve and Terry. She later married Floyd V. Sudholt on April 7, 1995 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Trenton and they shared many wonderful years as a blended family until his passing on August 2, 2019.

Known to all by her beloved nickname “Pat,” she touched the lives of those around her with her gentle spirit and gracious hospitality. One of Pat’s greatest joys was entertaining family and friends, creating an atmosphere filled with laughter, comfort, and a true sense of belonging. Her home was always a welcoming place, where memories were made and cherished by all who entered.

She is survived by her children: Steve Richards, Terry (Theresa) Richards, Bryan (Teresa) Sudholt, Karla (Dan) Fuehne, Susan (Robb) Kissel, and Dinah Sudholt (special friend, Paul Toennies). Her legacy continues through her eighteen grandchildren, Matt Richards, Nic (Patty) Richards, Trevor (Aunna) Richards, Paige (Peter) Ratermann, Tony (Sarah) Sudholt, Liz (special friend, Jon Slupski) Sudholt, Jake (fiance, Alyssa Curran) Sudholt, Spencer (Laura) Fuehne, Holden Fuehne, Quincy (Clayton) Collins, Hayden Kissel, Parker (special friend, Bella) Kissel, Maeve Kissel, Oliver Kissel, Cohen, Micah, and Avrahm Wiegers, and Willow Toennies; as well as her twelve great-grandchildren - Clara & Henry Richards, Tallulah & Julietta Richards, Ava, Veronica, & Whit Ratermann, Palmer Sudholt, Layton Sudholt, Hazel & Jace Fuehne, and Pierce Collins; and two more on the way. Pat is also survived by her siblings - Theresia Herzing, Ruth Price, Betsy (Myron) Mugele, Ben (Joan) Toeben, Jean (Ron) Gori, and Kathy Lloyd; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law - Chip & Barb Haag, Kathleen & Rick Ricketts, Robert Richards, Robert & Marilyn Sudholt, and Donald Sudholt.

In addition to her parents and husbands; Pat was preceded in death by many dear family members who held important places in her heart and life. She is reunited in rest with her sisters, Mary Ann Poettker and Judy Haag; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Anton F. Sudholt and Dora Sudholt; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jim Poettker, Raymond Herzing, Clarence Price, Nettie Sudholt, Elvina & John Gantner, Tom & Leola Sudholt, David & Marian Sudholt, Ernest & Lorene Sudholt, and Odelia & Arnold Trame.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. followed by a Memorial Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Francis Catholic Church in Aviston. A private burial will be held at a later date.  

Memorials made in memory of Pat are suggested to St. Francis Parish or Mater Dei High School and will be received at church or Nordike Funeral Home, 150 N. Clinton St., Breese, IL 62230 who is serving the family.
