Barbara M. Steinmann

Barbara M. Steinmann, 78, of Damiansville, passed away at her home on Tuesday, September 9, 2025. She was born on December 7, 1946, in Breese, IL, the daughter of Henry and Leona, nee Toennies, Fuehne. She married James Steinmann December 19, 1970 at St. Damian Catholic Church and he survives in Damiansville.

After dedicating 40 years to her role as a contracting officer at Scott Air Force Base, Barbara retired with great pride, reflecting a work ethic that inspired all who knew her. Throughout her career, she earned the respect of her colleagues and made significant contributions to her field.

Barbara was a cherished member of the St. Damian Parish, where her faith and fellowship enriched her life. She found joy in being a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, demonstrating her passion for the game and her local team. Above all, Barbara took immense pleasure in spending time with her grandchildren, Nicholas and Anna, who were a source of great joy and pride in her life.

Barbara is survived by her devoted husband of 54 years, James Steinmann; her son Mark (Shannon) Steinmann of Frisco, TX; her siblings, Bob (special friend, Dr. Patty Whitworth) Fuehne of Hillsboro, IL, Ben (Linda) Fuehne of Damiansville, IL, Ted (Phyllis) Fuehne of Edwardsville, IL, John Fuehne of Overland Park, KS, Gary (DeAnn) Fuehne of Aviston, IL, and Joe (Gial) Fuehne of Columbus, IN. Her legacy will also be honored by her loving grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters-in-law, Pat Fuehne, and Diane Fuehne.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 8:30 AM until 10:45 AM at St. Damian Catholic Church in Damiansville, IL. 

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at St. Damian Catholic Church in Damiansville, IL. Burial will follow at St. Damian Cemetery in Damiansville, IL.

Memorials may be made to Mater Dei High School or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and will be received at church or Nordike Funeral Home, 15 E. Hanover St., New Baden, IL 62265 who is serving the family.
