Anna "Betty" Alexander

Anna "Betty" Alexander, 96, passed away peacefully at her home in New Baden, IL. She was born  in Furth, Germany, the daughter of Johann Martin and Margarete Anna Barthelmes.

In addition to her parents, to greet Betty on her new journey are her loving husband Bob, daughter Margie, son Mark and brother Herbert.

Those left behind to remember her joyfulness are daughters Marsha and Mary, grandson Josh, cousin Gerhard, his wife Heidi and daughter Sarah of Switzerland, dear friend Pat Sigman among many relatives, neighbors, and friends.

Betty worked at both the Scott AFB BX and Commissary. She served as a Red Cross volunteer for over 25 years and was an active member of the Scott AFB Chapel.

In past years, Betty was a member of Zion UCC New Baden, where she served in the Woman's Guild, taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Betty was a member of the New Baden Woman's Club and also a volunteer voting Election Judge. 

A true renaissance woman, Betty displayed a broad skill set, from technology to creativity. She self-taught and became an expert of the Scott AFB pharmacy computer system as well as her home set-up. Betty was an excellent seamstress, making clothes for herself and her children. She crocheted, knitted, embroidered, mastered calligraphy and the art of pressed flowers. These just to name a few of her gifts that she always credited to God.

Her love of God, family and friends was unmatched but she also loved her "little acre" on County Line Road. She often said when the dew glistened on the grass it looked like diamonds and she was the richest person in the world. She would spread that joy either tending her flowers or walking her dog, Chief. She would stop, smile and wave to all who went by.

Her love for family, friends, and the community will be sadly missed.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of services on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at Nordike Funeral Home in New Baden.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at Nordike Funeral Home in New Baden. Burial will follow at Greenmount Cemetery in New Baden. 

In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty's memory may be made to the Zion UCC food pantry and will be accepted at Nordike Funeral Home.
