William W. Warren

William W. Warren, 89, of Carlyle passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese. Bill was born in St. Louis, MO on March 17, 1926 the son of Halleck B. and Lola (Kuehne) Warren M.D. He married Joan M. Kuhl on July 26, 1968 and she survives in Carlyle.

Bill is also survived by his son Michael (Kathy) Warren of Carlyle, his two daughters: Terry (Dean) Sevold of Brentwood Bay, B.C. Canada, and Patsy (Joe) Hanrahan of St. Louis, MO; his brother Halleck B. Warren of Olathe, KS; nine grandchildren: Alyssa (Jeff) Bassler, Laura (Ryan) Hoerchler, Kimberly (Josh) Beckmann, Nathan (Courtney) Scvold, Anthony Sevold, Jeff Sevold, Peter (Becky) Hanrahan, Valerie (Chad) Palacek, and Travis Hanrahan; nine great grandchildren: Brooke, Courtney, Wyatt, Chloe, Tessa, Hailey, Mason, Rosalie, and Poppy; his sister-in-law: Genevieve "Jenny" Wallin; a brother-in-law: Paul Kuhl; many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends, and spook & Spunky. As well as his very close friend Don Horrell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law and mother-in-law, his grandson: Christopher Warren at birth; a sisters-in-law Catherine Ternoir and Mariam Warren; and his brothers-in-law: Wess Ternoir, and Charles (Dutch) Wallin.

Bill enlisted in the United States Navy at the age of 17, within hours of graduating from Breese Public High School he was on his way to basic training. He went to mid shipmen school at Northwestern University in Chicago after graduating he continued on to Washington University School of Law in St. Louis and graduated with a Doctorate of Law Degree. He was commissioned a Navy Ensign in May 1945. He then went on to achieve ranks of Executive Officer, Navigator, Gunnery Officer, Communications Officer, Commissary and Supplies Officer and Ship Service Officer. He served on the USS LSM and the USS LCS and was in the Pacific Ocean en-route to Japan when the atomic bomb was dropped in Nagasaki ending the War World II.

Mr. Warren was the Owner and Managing Partner of Warren Land Company in Carlyle. He was the developer of more than 1,475 residential and camping lots on Carlyle Lake and in the City of Carlyle. Bill practiced law for many years and owned Warren Abstract and Title Company. He built and developed Governors Run Golf Course and Country Club. Bill also served on the steering committee for the building of the new St. Joseph's Hospital in Breese in the 1960's and the family was a major benefactor to that effort. He also served as the attorney for the hospital.

In the early 1950’s Bill was a member of the Carlyle Business and Professional Association to promote business in the Carlyle area. This group was responsible for keeping the Moran Shoe factory in Carlyle after it was sold to a St. Louis group. In 1971 Bill purchased controlling interest in Quip Industries later selling the business to the Bolk family. In August of 1985 Bill received a letter from a man in Atlanta concerning an injection molding plastics plant to be established in Illinois. Mr. Warren was a leading member of the Carlyle Economic Development Committee to get that plant in Carlyle. Bill and his brother built the building and became stock holders in this company that was known as Pulsar Plastics. In 1985 he contacted the McDonald Corporation concerning a McDonalds in Carlyle. After extensive studies Mr. Warren was able to facilitate the property and bring McDonalds to Carlyle. McDonalds opened in 1986 and just nine or ten days after that, new Route 50 was opened. Within the next 30 months, Kentucky Fried Chicken opened, Hardees soon followed and thereafter, the Clinton County Food Mart North. Bill was also the developer of the Hi-De-Ho Restaurant and Motel. His most recent and locally known development was Governors Run Golf Course in Carlyle.

Bill loved all aspects of business. his achievements include being the President of Trio Motor Co in Nashville, President of Victoria Ford in Mascoutah, Vice President of Pulsar Plastics, Senior Partner in Red Wing Shoe Stores in Paducah, KY and Cedar Rapids, IA. He was the President of Carlyle Community Development Association in 1955, past President of the Clinton County Bar Association, past President of the Carlyle Rotary Club and the Carlyle Industrial Foundation.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2016 from 9 until 11:00 AM at Nordike Funeral Home in Carlyle.

Funeral Services will begin at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Nordike Funeral Home in Carlyle with Fr. George Mauck and Msgr. David Darin officiating.

Memorials in honor of Bill can be made to the Clinton County Humane Society or to St. Mary’s Church and will be received at Nordike Funeral Home.
