Florence C. Kassen, 80, of Albers, died Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville. She was born April 13, 1935 in Germantown, daughter of Louis and Mary (Luecking) Mueller. She married Clarence B. “Kassey” Kassen on June 6, 1956 in St. Libory and he preceded her in death on July 8, 2006. She is survived by her children, Debra Kehrer of Albers, Diane “Fritz” (Fred) Strubhart and Barb (Ken) Schroeder all of Bartelso, James “Pete” (Rachelle) Kassen of Carterville, David (Phyllis) Kassen and Donald (Jill) Kassen all of Damiansville; a son-in-law, Kevin (Teresa) Haas of Trenton; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Kassen of Albers; 20 grandchildren, Edward (Erin) Kehrer, Cheryl Kehrer, Sara Kehrer, Michael Strubhart, Amanda (Nick) Rex, Gina Strubhart, Nick (Karen) Schroeder, Jacob (Pam) Schroeder, John Schroeder, Samantha Kassen, Greg Kassen, Clay Kassen, Dillon Kassen, Dustin (Amber) Haas, Zac Haas, Brent Lengacher, Ben Kassen, Jayne (Neal) Arentsen, Jenna Kues, and Becca Kassen; 10 great-grandchildren, EvaJo, Ellie, Landon, Mason, Chase, Adelyn, Paxton, Aisley, Madaline, Hutch, and she was anticipating the birth of two more great-grandchildren; a brother, John (Sharon) Mueller of St. Libory; a sister, Mary Ann Kaemmerer of Belleville; and sisters-in-law, Shirley Mueller of St. Libory, Pauline Geissert of Mt. Zion, Frances Middendorff of New Baden, and Marie Kassen of Breese; she is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda M. Haas in 2002; a son-in-law, Dennis Kehrer; two brothers, Eugene “Pete” Mueller and Arnold Mueller; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Elmer Kaemmerer, Harry Geissert, Bill Middendorff, Lawrence Kassen, Victor & Rita M. Schmidt, and Frank & Bernadine Meier. Mrs. Kassen was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Bernard Parish and Altar Sodality, the Albers American Legion Post 1026 Auxiliary, an avid Cardinals Baseball fan, and she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Albers with Rev. Jack Joyce officiating. Burial will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery in Albers. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, May 29, 2015 and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 30, 2015 at Hempen-Nordike Funeral Home in Albers. Memorials may be made to the American Legion Post 1026 Auxiliary, St. Bernard Parish, or to the charity of the donor’s choice and will be received at the funeral home.
