James “Jim” Schurman, age 62, of Carlyle passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2017, at his residence. Jim was born in Breese on April 27, 1955, the son of Maurice and Loretta (Winter) Schurman. He married Kathleen Berns on September 3, 2004 and she survives in Carlyle. Mr. Schurman is also survived by his step son Tyler (Erin) Huelskamp of Breese, his step daughter, Katherine (Jordan) Cook of Breese; three grandchildren: Carter Cook, Saylor Huelskamp, and Maddyn Huelskamp; two brothers: John (Valerie) Schurman of Belleville, and Gene (Linda) Schurman of Breese; his nephews: Chris (Sarah) Schurman, Scott (Tina) Schurman, Nic Schurman, Jess (Suzanna) Schurman, Kyle Schurman, and Jacob Schurman; his mother-in-law, Shirley M. Berns; sister-in-law, Judy Schurman;Brother-in-law: Bill (Laurie) Lampen; niece, Ali Lampen, nephew, Nick Lampen; three great nieces and two great nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and father; his step father Victor Eversgerd; his brother Larry Schurman and his father-in-law Dr. Paul H. Berns. Jim attended Southern Illinois University at Carbondale where you earned a bachelor’s degree in architectural planning. He worked as a construction project manager before retiring. He was an avid outdoors man, he loved to hunt, fish, golf and boat. A visitation will be held from 3:00 until 6:00 pm on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Nordike Funeral Home in Carlyle. A Celebration of Life will follow at Governors Run Golf Course Clubhouse. Memorials made in Jim’s name are suggested to the American Diabetes Association and will be received at the Nordike Funeral Home in Carlyle.
