Edward A. Jeckel

Edward A. Jeckel of Carlyle died Monday, July 19, 2010 at the Carlyle Healthcare Center, Carlyle, Illinois at the age of 96 years. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on May 15, 1914 the son of Charles I. and Emma E. (Warner) Jeckel. He married Elsie T. Henson in 1943 and she preceded him in death on October 16, 1994.Mr. Jeckel is survived by a daughter: Frances Ewell of Bear, Delaware, five grandchildren including Lisa Bowman and husband Steven of Carlyle, and four great grandchildren.Edward retired from the Greenville Memorial Hospital System, Greenville, South Carolina as an assistant engineer. He was proud to have served in the U. S. Army Air Corp as a paratrooper. He was also glider certified during his military service. He was very proud of his military service to his country and enjoyed riding his motorcycle.A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at the Zion United Church of Christ in New Baden, Illinois on Friday July 30, 2010 at 1:00pm with Rev. Elmer Bowman, Jr. officiating.Expressions of sympathy may be made in Mr. Jeckel’s memory to the charity of the donors choice and those will be received at the Frerker Funeral Home in Carlyle which is serving the family.In keeping with Mr. Jeckel’s wishes, cremation services were performed.Expressions of sympathy may be left at www.frerkerfuneral.com .
