Dorothy ‘June’ Sheets (Higgins), age 85, of Carlyle IL passed away peacefully in her home on June 21, 2016 in the presence of God and surrounded by her family. Mrs. Sheets was born on June 2, 1931 and was a lifelong resident of Carlyle.

She is survived by her 8 children: Ricky Dean Sheets and wife Vicky of Carlyle, Sandra June Maas and Donald of Royalton, Cheryl Lynn Keith and Louis of Carlyle, Wyman Keith Sheets Lori of Carlyle, Tamarah Ann Mason and Robert of Carlyle, Kimberly Sue Rohde and husband Chris of Carlyle, Kevin Jay Sheets of Carlyle, and Micheal Lea Sheets of Carlyle. 27 Grandchildren, and 37 Great Grandchildren; Three Sisters, Lucille Krieger of Carlyle, Mildred Tracy of Carlyle, and Doris Addison (niece) of Salem; four sisters in law: Clara Higgins of Kansas City, Delores Wright of Centralia, Bonnie Sheets of Wood River, Rita Gilliam and husband Kenneth of Christopher; Over one hundred nieces and nephews, numerous “adopted” children and grandchildren and a loving church family.

Brother in law, Rev C Darrell Sheets, Sister in law, Sheila Heil; and her great grandson, Nathaniel Maas.

Mrs. Sheets devoted her life to Jesus Christ in 1939 at the age of 8 years at the First Pentecostal Church of Carlyle on the corner Livingston and 2nd, where she also met her husband. She attended several other churches through the years where she volunteered in any capacity needed. In 1995 she opened her home to establish the Way of Life Church of Carlyle, her lifelong dream. Way of Life is currently constructing its new church building, a testimony to the faithfulness of June Sheets.

She was a devoted mother who gave her children a home built on love, honor, and respect. She made all of her children and grandchildren feel like they were her favorite. She opened her home to all people from all walks of life. A gifted artist, she was well known for her cooking, sewing, painting, and poetry. She prepared large meals and everything was always perfect. She specialized in fried chicken and apple pie. She had an open door, an open table, and an open heart. A virtuous woman, June Sheets listened intently, spoke softly, loved deeply, gave extravagantly, and lived abundantly. Today she is with the Lord.

Due to construction at Way of Life Church, funeral service will be held at the First Apostolic Church in Centralia at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 25, 2016 with June’s grandson, Rev. Jason McIntosh officiating. Interment will follow at Carlyle Township Cemetery.
