Donald P. Vandeloo, 88 of Carlyle, IL born April 15, 1930 in Carlyle, entered into rest on Monday, June 4, 2018, at Highland Healthcare Center.
Don was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Carlyle, the Carlyle Knights of Columbus, St. Mary’s Holy Name Society, and St. Louis Typographical Union #8. He started at the printing trade in the 7th grade. He joined the Illinois Reserve Militia at the age of 15 and enlisted in the United States Army at age 17, he served in the Medical Corps and was discharged in 1948.

He resumed his printing career at the Carlyle Democrat, Salem Republican, East St. Louis Press, Centralia Sentinel, Carlyle Union Banner, Gaither Typesetting in St. Louis, East St. Louis Journal and retired from the St. Louis Post Dispatch from 1965 to 1985. He then worked as a real estate agent and drove a school bus for Unit 1 in Carlyle.

He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, boating, time at the clubhouse, golf, happy hour, breakfast with his buddies, his good neighbors and his friends at the Senior Center. He also enjoyed computer technology and maintaining the Van De Loe family tree.

He married Lucille F. nee Winkeler on November 18, 1952 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Bartelso and she preceded him in death April 17, 2010. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Joseph C. and Gertrude nee Rohr Vandeloo; his brothers Norman Vandeloo and Msgr. Melvin Vandeloo; sisters: JoAnn Kauling and Betty Niemeyer; father and mother-in-law, Leo and Helena nee Mensing Winkeler; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Rosalind (Winkeler) Sautman, Gregor and Helen Winkeler, Norbert and Betty Winkeler, Ervin and Rosemary Winkeler, Sylvester “Beps” Kauling, Marcellus “Teedle” Niemeyer, and James Wellen.

Surviving are his children Donna Dworak and husband Ernest of Carlyle, Gary Vandeloo and wife Mary of Breese and Mary Falconio and husband James of Carlyle; seven grandchildren: Jessica Davis and husband Joseph, Amy Pizinski and husband Michael, Anthony Falconio and wife Heather, Joseph Falconio and wife Jenna, Michael Falconio and friend Kaylee Englund, Alison Vandeloo and Eric Vandeloo; eight great grandchildren: Grey, Marie, Anna and Abigail Davis, Mason and Alyssa Falconio, Reid and Abrie Falconio; his sister Paulette Wellen and his brother William Vandeloo and wife Virginia.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Carlyle with Fr. George Mauck officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Carlyle.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 until 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Carlyle. The Carlyle Knights of Columbus Council 1382 will pray the rosary at St. Mary Catholic Church on Friday, June 8, 2018 at 7 p.m.

Memorials made in memory of Mr. Vandeloo are suggested to the Carlyle Senior Center or the charity of donor’s choice and will be received at the church or Nordike Funeral Home in Carlyle.
