Charles Meyer

Charles Meyer, 92, of Carlyle passed away at the Carlyle Healthcare Center on Tuesday, February 11, 2020. He was born in Irishtown Township on October 17, 1927, the son of Ed and Helen (Forseman) Meyer. He married Dorothy Johnston on November 12, 1948 in Irishtown Township and she proceeded him in death on July 10, 2018.
Mr. Meyer is survived by his children: Pamela Wilkerson of Carlyle, Dennis Meyer and wife Brenda of Donnellson, Mike Meyer of Donnellson, Steve Meyer and wife Joan of Carlyle, and Cindy Taylor and husband Jim of Carlyle; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-nine great grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren; his brother, Bill Meyer of Lincoln, IL and sister Edna Golder of Carlyle and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife as well as his daughter-in-law, Janet Meyer; son-in-law, Dennis Wilkerson; granddaughter Tiffany Sue Taylor; his sister Dorothy Sohn and husband George; his in-laws: Betty Lou Johnston and Mary Kay Rhine and husband Rodell, John L. Johnston and George Johnston and wife Mary Ann.
Charles was a veteran of the United States Army. After his service in the military he returned home and drove a truck for Time DC and Beelman Truck Company. He worked at Highland Box Board as well as B-Line systems in Highland. In his earlier years he owned and operated The DX Gas Station in Keyesport. Charles and his wife Dorothy spent many winters traveling to Texas and camping before returning to Carlyle for the warmer months.
He like hunting, fishing, tinkering with things in his garage and playing with his dog Bingo. Most days he could be found sitting on his porch keeping watch over the neighborhood. He also enjoyed his daily trip to Subway to eat breakfast with his granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 14, 2020 at Nordike Funeral Home in Carlyle. Interment will follow at Carlyle Township Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until the time of services on Friday, February 14, 2020 at Nordike Funeral Home in Carlyle.
Memorials made in memory of Charles are suggested to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be received at the funeral home.
