David A. Eversgerd

David A. Eversgerd, age 79, of Hoffman passed away on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia. David was born in rural Madison County, Illinois on January 7, 1937 the son of Aloys and Gertrude (Huelsman) Eversgerd. He married Barbara Lueking on August 18, 1962 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Carlyle.

Along with wife of 53 years, Barbara, he is survived by his daughter, Pam Blue and husband Rick; his sons: Bryan Eversgerd and wife Lisa, Scott Eversgerd and wife Stacie, Randy Eversgerd and wife Stacie, and Corey Eversgerd and wife Maria; twelve grandchildren: Amber Carter and husband Aaron, Ashley Davis, Justin Davis, Kristen, Jacob, Logan, Katlyn, Kylie, Kyle, Avery, and Kaleb Eversgerd; four great grandchildren: Emma, Ava, Jett, and Aalyiah; his step granddaughter, Kelsie Blue; three brothers: Al Eversgerd and wife Shirley, Gene Eversgerd, Firmin “Gus” Eversgerd and wife Doris; three sisters: Marion Lippert, Pat Wessel and husband Willard, and Carol Peters and husband Jim; his brother-in-law, Ron Lueking and wife Jane; as well as many nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by his parents Aloys & Gertrude Eversgerd, his step-mother, Nelda Hanks, his father-in-law, Ted Lueking and mother-in-law Elda Lueking; his brother-in-law Don Lippert; and his sister-in-law, Wanita Eversgerd.

Mr. Eversgerd was a veteran of the United States Airforce, he served is country from 1957 to 1961. David worked for CNIC Railroad where he mastered the art of welding. He also farmed his family’s land near Hoffman for many years. After retirement he was able to work in his large garden more often. David loved to crappie fish, he especially enjoyed it when he had the company of his children or grandchildren. He could always be found at a baseball game, he enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play as often as he could. David didn’t enjoy anything more than being surrounded by his family.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Carlyle, with Fr. George Mauck officiating. Burial will follow at Carlyle Township Cemetery with full military honors accorded.

Visitation will be held from 4 until 8:00 PM on Friday, April 1, 2016 at Nordike Funeral Home in Carlyle and on Saturday, April 2, 2016 from 8:30 until 9:30 AM at the funeral home.

Memorials in honor of David are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Hospital and will be received at Nordike Funeral Home at 740 Fairfax Street, Carlyle, IL 62231.
